hidden visions
My dad has late-stage Parkinson’s, and hallucinations have become more common as the disease progresses. One of the first visions that appeared a few years ago was a cute black dog, just out of the corner of his eye. This dog has remained a consistent companion. I’ve always wondered if it’s his memory of my dog Chorney, a lab/retriever mix with long black hair. Although initially the hallucinations were benign and even amusing (his word), they seem to be getting more frightening to him now as the disease progresses. The images below are based on his (usually vague) descriptions, and are my way of connecting to and honoring his experience.
